On last Friday we started watched the movie.  "Guns, Germs, and Steel" 
  • A biologist named Jarod Diamond was in Papua new guinea and studied about birds, the new Guineans thought the White was superior than them because the white have a lot of stuff but they don't. Jarod Diamond disagreed with that.

Today we continued watched the movie "Guns Germs and Steel", here's the notes that I took.

  • Farming in Papua New Guinea is 10000 years old.
  • People here sometimes eat spiders for food.
  • People has been used animal to make them get out.
  • Animal is be used in protein supplement.
  • People can only live if they are good farmers.

    • Technology 
    • Population
    • Job opportunity 
  • China - rice
    • The Americas - corn, squash and beans
    • Africa - millet, yams and sorghum.
  • Farming in Papua New Guinea is like 10000 years old

01/29/15 TEST

Today we took a test which was open Blog, I have some notes on my blog but it was a mess, so it's difficult for me to realize the time that the event happened. And I can only figure out the rivers on the map part.

01/28/15 Test Review

On that day, we reviewed the powerpoint about the Mesopotamia, the test will be on Thursday. Here's the notes that I took:

  • Indo-Europeans were people from the grasslands of the Russian steppe who introduced the horse to the Near East
  • King Hammurabi of Babylon created a series of laws known as “Hammurabi’s Code” - laws that included “an eye for an eye” and regulations of marriage, divorce, and punishments for all sorts of crimes
  • Egyptian doctors wrote extensively on health issues and created potions and cures for a number of common ailments
Hopefully I can do a good job on my first S2 WestCiv test!

01/24/15 More on Mesopotamia

On Friday we continued talking about The Mesopotamia. Here's the notes. And we will have a quiz on Wednesday.
  • a pantheon of Sumerian gods and goddesses emerged, with many of the deities representing the natural elements of the world
  • the Ziggurat was a Sumerian temple built on top of a “mountain” of earth
  • Sumer was conquered by the Akkadians c. 2350 B.C. - their gods took the place of previous gods and all were forced to worship them
  • Upper Egypt was a 500 mile long strip of fertile land along the Nile; 
  • Lower Egypt was the wide land of the Nile delta, emptying into the Mediterranean Sea
  • The Nile was the major provider of life for the Egyptians and was much revered in lore and writing
  • around 3100 B.C. the two lands were united under a single king or “pharaoh

  • Before Civilization: 
  • The Origins and “Ages” of Human Beings
  • 200,000 years ago a human species emerged in southwestern Africa
  • 14,000 years ago, a worldwide human race existed
  • The Prehistoric Era
  • the Agricultural Revolution
  • Populations rose due to increased ability to care for young children
  • invention of wheel and plow made it possible to produce enough food for storage
  • Villagers were polytheists, worshipped multiple nature, human and animal gods.
